Do you want a classic Sachertorte or quality public space?
August 2025
The Austrian capital has long been one of the best places to live. It is the perfect example of how to seamlessly combine a high standard of living, culture, infrastructure, safety, and the functionality of the entire urban organism. That’s why we are pleased that our products are increasingly integrated into its streets and semi-public spaces.
Join us for a walk through the green boulevard with extensive cycling infrastructure, a residential development by the Danube, a rooftop terrace at a private company, and a luxury hotel with a restaurant in the city center. We have selected four inspiring places for you – which one captivates you the most?
The Green Boulevard Praterstraße ending at Nestroyplatz Square
Cuulbox is an Austrian interdisciplinary association of experts that brings together landscape architects, transport planners, and climatologists. They create solutions that make cities more livable. They are also behind the concept of transforming the green boulevard of Praterstraße, which ends at Nestroyplatz Square. Landscape architects from Studio 3:0 translatedtheoretical recommendations into reality – this collaboration resulted in one of the most interesting public spaces in the city.
They succeeded in changing the street plan and reclaiming more space for pedestrians and cyclists. The boulevards is an integral part of Route 1, connecting Reumannplatz and the WU Campus, as well as the long-distance North Corridor cycling route. Today, up to a million cyclists travel it daily. By removing parts of the asphalt and replacing it with tiles with better water permeability and cooling properties, they created a climate-friendly public space. The extensive planting of new trees and the addition of water features also helped. Atypical PIN shelters with wooden slats and benches from the Lago range complement the key Nestroyplatz Square.
Danubeflats Residential Development
Architects A01 have redefined city center living. Danubeflats meets the latest standards in architecture, services, and quality of life. At 180 meters high with 48 floors, it is the tallest residential building in the city. It is located in the immediate vicinity of the Danube arm – the Neue Donau, which has undergone extensive revitalization and the construction of new levees to protect the city.
The entire Donau City neighbourhood, including Danubeflats, is designed as a city within a city. This concept is reflected in both the interior and exterior design of the residential district. The residents have access to extensive services, restaurants, wellness facilities, and sports amenities within one urban unit. The public space extends to the water and features green islands and biodiversity beds that connect to the surrounding parks. Nearly 20 atypical Vera Solo benches "floating" on elevated organic beds form part of the lounging areas. The complexity of the project is evident in the 100 hours of construction work that went into these sets of wavy benches on legs or retaining walls. The public space of the Danubeflats district is the work of Grimm Architekten and Auböck + Karász studios.
The Rooftop Terrace of the Karriere Company
The Karriere company finds you the ideal employer. It presents itself as a progressive firm offering a range of employee benefits. One of these is an extensive rooftop terrace located on the building in which their offices are situated in Vienna. The terrace features three modular units from the Platform collection, providing space for undisturbed lunches and meetings with colleagues. The modular platforms were assembled into the final units directly on the rooftop – the narrowest passage was a one meter wide doorway. Other elements include loungers from the Rivage collection and benches from the Blocq collection. Urban Islands seating arrangements enhance the playful nature of the rooftop terrace. All the elements reflect the colors of the visual identity of the Karriere company.
The company also offers flexible working hours, remote working, contributions towards lunches and fitness activities, team-building events and open communication with management.
Hotel and Restaurant in the City Center – Imperial Riding School
The sensitive conversion of a historic building from 1729 into a public and private spaces attracts the attention of city residents and tourists alike. Over time, the original imperial riding school was transformed over time into the largest cinema in the Austrian capital. Today, it has shaken off the layers of time and under the direction of London architects from Goddard Littlefair studio in collaboration with Vienna's BWM Designers & Architects studio, it has been transformed into a luxury hotel offering restaurants, wellness facilities and a sauna. It is also a meeting place for city residents.
Visitors to the hotel interior will discover interior details inspired by horse riding. Horseshoe motifs, leather reins, saddle-evoking furniture, and other elements blend with the original architecture creating an atmosphere that evokes old cinemas and Art Nouveau. The public space between Ungargasse and Bahngasse streets was designed by landscape architects from Lindle + Bukor studio. Bespoke backlit Landscape benches follow the green areas of the square and offer comfortable seating to restaurant visitors.
