The Green Boulevard Praterstraße ending at Nestroyplatz Square

An Austrian interdisciplinary association of experts called Cuulbox brings together landscape architects, transport planners, and climatologists. They create solutions that offer cities a more livable environment. They are also behind the concept of transforming the green boulevard of Praterstraße, ending at Nestroyplatz Square. Landscape architects from Studio 3:0 translated theoretical recommendations into reality – this collaboration resulted in one of the most interesting public spaces in the city.

They succeeded in changing the street plan and reclaiming more space for pedestrians and cyclists. It is an integral part of Route 1, which connects Reumannplatz and WU Campus, and also the long-distance cycling route North Corridor – today, up to a million cyclists travel it daily. By removing parts of the asphalt, which were replaced with tiles with better water permeability and cooling properties, a climate-friendly public space was created. Extensive planting of new trees and the application of water features also helped. Atypical PIN shelters with wooden slats and benches from the Lago range complemented the key Nestroyplatz Square.
