What’s new in Nová Paka?

Nová Paka, a small town lying between the Czech tourist regions of Bohemian Paradise and the Giant Mountains, has a new modern bus station. The surroundings have also undergone a major transformation, and we are proud to announce that this gateway to Bohemian Paradise features our products. The transport terminal was designed by competition-winning studio Loca Plan, chosen by the inhabitants of the town themselves.

A striking feature of the green roof of the new departure lounge is its circular aperture, through which a ginkgo tree will look out over the town in reference to Bohemian Paradise, the first place in Europe to be granted geopark status by UNESCO. The bus terminal will play a significant role not only in the transport of Nová Paka but also in the town’s overall urban planning strategy. “Our goal was to bring a new city-building element,” explains architect Ondřej Duchan. “We modeled the building in order to preserve views to surrounding historical sites, and on the side facing the monastery we used vegetation to soften the shape of the roof.”

The sophisticated structure is accented by our furniture, including not only benches but also bicycle stands, litter bins, tree grates, bollards and bus stop signage. The concrete structure is given a softer edge by the Woody bench. An outdoor bench inspired by the aesthetic of stored lumber, Woody is formed from a thick sandwich of wooden boards firmly fastened together by six stainless steel screws. This substantial block rests on visually subtle steel legs as if the whole bulky construction were floating above the ground. The bench is entirely maintenance-free, and the unlacquered wood, treated against pests, matures naturally and gracefully. You may recognize it if you’ve ever been to the summit of Europe’s highest peak, Mont Blanc. In addition, the seating in the indoor waiting room is made up of an irregular arrangement of black metal benches from the Radium range, playing off the building’s iron pillars.

Take a look at the products the architects chose for the project:
Arbottura tree grates, Radium, Sinus and Woody benches, Velo bicycle stands, Bistrot tables, stop signage, Lotlimit bollards, Crystal litter receptacles.
