Great design goes hand in hand with great architecture
2011
We are pleased to inform our readers that not only does state-of-art design thrive in Bílovice, but it is also architecture that we can be proud of. The very seat of our company, whose architectural design has been becoming an integral part of new corporate identity of mmcité has gained an outstanding reputation. The work of architects Kamil Mrva (Concept) and Luděk del Maschio (Interior and Design) in collaboration with David Karásek and Radek Hegmon has been shortlisted for the latest volume of the Czech Architecture Yearbook. The CAY is a traditional and prestigious publication, covering 33 interesting buildings from the period between 2009 – 2010 hand-picked by the architect Pavel Hnilička.
This project is a comprehensive refurbishment of what initially used to be a farmer‘s cooperation building. Here, a decision was made by the authors to extend the entrance building using a simple extension through which the structure not only took a new shape and form but also a brand new function – to serve needs of a modern urban furniture manufacturer.
A truly spacious office building combines two distinctive approaches to the philosophy of office space – classic cubicles and rooms and open space. The façade of the new construction was covered with aluminium foil insulation. The other opposite building is clad with profiled steel sheets which connect the outer walls with a gabled roof, giving the building a very modern character. Round silver skylights on the roof add for a truly space-like appearance.
Both buildings – despite a rather radical transformation – preserve shape and proportion of the original farm buildings, while providing a representative office space for the company‘s management and also high-quality facilities for administration, development, production and storage departments.
Two buildings sit neatly in the middle of fields and meadows of a hilly Czech countryside and can be seen from a great distance. They also gave rise to a new street now serving as an outdoor mmcité street furniture showroom. And it becomes a real paradox that it is the rural countryside that has become the hub of cutting-edge products for some of the largest cities across the globe.
